The current membership of SCURL comprises the Scottish University and HEI libraries, the two major public reference libraries in Glasgow and Edinburgh, the National Library of Scotland, National Museums Scotland, the Open University and the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh..
A representative of the Scottish Library and Information Council (SLIC) attends meetings. All member institutions contribute to the funding of the Service Development Manager’s post, which is hosted by the National Library of Scotland, and to the Scottish Higher Education Digital Library’s Administrative Assistant, hosted by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
The Confederation’s aims are:
- to improve services for users and maximise resource through collaborative action
- to work with other organisations, sectors and domains towards the creation of a co-operative library infrastructure in Scotland
- to lobby funding and planning bodies on matters of shared interest
- to provide mutual support for members
