SNIPES: Scotland Northern Ireland Periodical Supply

SNIPES is an Affiliated Group to the Scottish Confederation of University and Research Libraries (SCURL). All Scottish Higher Education institutions, the National Library of Scotland, the National Museum of Scotland and the two largest higher education institutions in Northern Ireland (Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster) are represented. The primary remit of the group is to manage the consortial purchase of periodical materials on behalf of these institutions through regular tendering exercises and careful monitoring of contracts once these are in place. In addition to these activities, the group is involved with the discussion of wider issues relating to periodicals such as Scottish agreements for the purchasing of large e-resource bundles and supporting software

The current SNIPES contract with Swets Information Services, a Subscription Agent will end on the 31 December 2008. The SNIPES Steering Group is currently in the process of drafting a new Invitation To Tender document with the intention of publishing the final version in the European Journal by October 2007.

The Chair of SNIPES is Jeremy Upton, the Deputy Director of St Andrews University Library jeremy.upton@st-andrews.ac.uk
