The Scottish Visual Arts Group represents librarians and information providers from academic and public libraries, museums, galleries and other institutions concerned with the promotion and documentation of the visual arts in Scotland.

Committed to the dissemination of art information and the exchange of ideas, the membership sees itself as a professional support and research group with a strong practical emphasis.

The Group aims to

  • maximise opportunities for co-operation in Scottish institutions
  • promote collections and services
  • act as a lobbying body
  • heighten awareness of visual arts documentation
  • link activities of local and UK wide initiatives

This wide remit allows the Group to respond to changing needs.

Interest is welcome from museums, galleries and other organisations as well as individuals associated with archives, records or collections related to the visual arts.

Meetings are held twice yearly at different members' institutions throughout Scotland frequently coinciding with the openings of new buildings - the Museum of Scotland, Dundee Contemporary Arts and the Dean Gallery in Edinburgh were all viewed by members following meetings.

There are two categories of membership - full and corresponding. There are currently 24 full members and 7 corresponding. A directory of members is available.

Join the SVAG blog to keep up-to-date with the group's activities and initiatives over the coming months. Receive all new content direct simply by joining the RSS or email subscription service.
