The University of Strathclyde does not offer a separate course of study in North American Studies but because of their interdisciplinary nature, North American Studies are included in courses on history, economics, literature, politics, sociology, geography, law, business and women's studies.
Modern printed collections
The University Library collects a substantial quantity of material on United States politics and government and holds research level collections on American public policy, political parties and elections.
There are substantial collections on United States history, with concentrations of material on the American Civil War, economic, financial and business history, depression and posterity in the inter-war years and the civil rights movement. Large items include the papers of John Adams, Henry Laurens, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and Woodrow Wilson. The Library also holds the Congressional Quarterly series Historic Documents from 1972 onwards.
In North American literature, the main emphasis of the collection relates to 20th century literature, with strong collections in the literature of the United States post 1945.
The Library sunscribes to the major U.S. journals in politics, history and business studies.
Microform & audiovisual collections
The library does
offer some microform collections of interest to the study of North America.
